Being a Light

front room window

Family Home Evening
November 9, 2015

Rebekah taught us a song she learned at school.

1 skeleton skipping down the street... for this is Halloween
2 scary witches flying in the air... for this is Halloween
3 little pumpkins walking in a row... for this is Halloween
4 littlegoblins dancing in the street... for this is Halloween
5 little children playing trick or treat... for this is Halloween
BOO!

Olivia was asked to say the prayer but told us that we had to do her plan. Mom told her we would do her plan but could she please say the prayer first. She agreed. She said the prayer asking to bless each member of our family by name and Kate.

Olivia's "plan" was that we each take a leaf from last week's lesson/activity and write our names on it for the Thank You Tree. It is so fun to see her learn to write her name. It is fun to see Rebekah learning and growing as she goes to school.

We used the Friend Magazine's Presidency message as our lesson. It was based on the talk by President Thomas S. Monson from Conference called"Be an Example and a Light" (https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2015/10/be-an-example-and-a-light?lang=eng).

Dad asked if anyone knew what it meant to be a light. Rebekah said, "I know the process! When you help others and are kind, you are being a light to them." The Holy Ghost bore witness that this was true and we felt proud that she is gaining a testimony and understanding of the gospel.

“Be thou an example of the believers, in word,
in conversation,
in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”
2 Timothy 4:12

We briefly talked about how we can be an example/light to others in each of the ways mentioned in the scripture.

We sang I Am Like a Star and I'm Trying to be Like Jesus and hung up our new star Christmas lights pictured above. Sweet and simple, yet just what we needed today.
